Specifically, the salt supply ensuring good driving conditions is a crucial factor. In this paper, the strategic supply chain design of a winter service provider in Austria is investigated. Two research directions on the influence of bigger and fewer salt silos per depot and the logistic costs for a unique summer salt purchasing strategy are addressed applying two independent solution approaches. On the same data basis, a simulation model is developed and a mixed integer linear problem is applied to answer the respective research questions. For the problem of assigning work packages to multi-skilled human resources with heterogeneous skills, the uncertainty on work package processing times is addressed. In the case where the required capacity exceeds the available capacity of internal resources, external human resources are used. The objective is to minimize the expected external costs. The first solution approach is a “matheuristic” based on a decomposition of the problem into a project scheduling subproblem and a staffing subproblem. An iterated local search procedure determines the project schedules, while the staffing subproblem is solved by means of the Frank–Wolfe algorithm for convex optimization. The second solution approach is sample average approximation where, based on sampled scenarios, the deterministic equivalent problem is solved through mixed-integer programming. It uses a combination of high-class video production equipment and interactive platforms. It is accessed on a web platform designed and coded by our team. The interface offers several bonus materials to learn more about the project as well as deactivate the interactivity. Thanks to technology and by means of selective options, the film provides the audience with the power to decide, with a real impact, the story’s outcome. It was decided early on in the screenwriting process to bring to the forefront a metaphor of our own existence; every choice we make matters. Unity3D was used to combine numerous graphics and 360° images that appear during the moment of the audience’s decisions. The power given to the viewer is a revolutionary way to make them part of the screenwriting team. The authors first fixed the endings per genre and from there shaped interconnected stories that tell the conflict between the characters. The bonds they have between them and how they solve their problems are different from one scene to another based on the choice selected. Turning Points narrates a day in the life of three characters and their interconnected relationships. The film contains 14 different paths that converge in 6 different endings, each one resulting in a different genre: horror, comedy, thriller, romance, drama and science-fiction. Using such an unconventional method of writing was complex due to the mix of creativity and science. Our paper includes a breakdown of obstacles and solutions from each department. The emergence of Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) made it paramount to fully understand the particulars of such attacks in order to improve or devise effective defense mechanisms. Grammar inference paired with visual analytics (VA) techniques offers a powerful foundation for the automated extraction of behavioral patterns from sequential event traces. To facilitate the interpretation and analysis of APTs, we present SEQUIN, a grammar inference system based on the Sequitur compression algorithm that constructs a context-free grammar (CFG) from string-based input data. In addition to recursive rule extraction, we expanded the procedure through automated assessment routines capable of dealing with multiple input sources and types. This automated assessment enables the accurate identification of interesting frequent or anomalous patterns in sequential corpora of arbitrary quantity and origin. However, the restrictive structure of this top-down approach implying that upper level decisions are the constraints for lower level decisions also has its shortcomings. One problem that occurs is that deterministic mixed integer decision problems are often used for long-term planning, but the real production system faces a set of stochastic influences. Therefore, a planned utilisation factor has to be included into this deterministic aggregate planning problem. In practice, this decision is often based on past data and not consciously taken. In this paper, the effect of long-term forecast error on the optimal planned utilisation factor is evaluated for a production system facing stochastic demand and the benefit of exploiting this decision’s potential is discussed. Overall costs including capacity, backorder and inventory costs, are determined with simulation for different multi-stage and multi-item production system structures. Using Virtual Reality in live production can make a significant difference in the content that can be created. There are two primary approaches to create a Virtual Reality environment: static and dynamic. In the dynamic system the camera can change position, zoom and focus with the virtual environment being synchronised with the camera and set to create a seamless visual world. The authors explored the possibility of making an inexpensive dynamic virtual system based on the game engine Unity3D which is the first one of its kind. In the project the authors were able to: track the zoom and position of the camera, chroma key the live set and connect this data to the virtual environment within Unity3D in real time. Through team effort, including project management, marketing strategies, technical setup, and creative input a live show was produced with our dynamic system.}, language = {Englisch}, booktitle = {Proceedings}, author = {Adam, Jente and Amouzegh, David and Bujokova, Pavlina and Kastel, Thiemo and Valéry, Dorian and Sanmartin Marco, Laura and Saup, Sonja and Kovaleva, Polina and Trim, Robert}, month = oct, year = {2016}, keywords = {European Project Semester, Institut für Creative Media Technologies, Vortrag, peer-reviewed}, pages = {6}, } @misc{kastel_vr/ar_2016, address = {Porto, Portugal}, type = {Präsentation}, title = {{VR}/{AR} {Training} {App} for {Theatre} and {Film} {Actors}}, url = {https://nem-initiative.org/nem-art/}, abstract = {Als nominierter Finalist bei der NEM Art\&Design Competition reiste Thiemo Kastel im November nach Porto/Portugal.
